We had an amazing two weeks with visiting artist, Omope Carter Daboiku! This residency wouldn’t be possible without the support of many people and organizations.
Thank you, Overfield parents, for all of the wonderful food you provided for lunches. It was delicious, and this generous act enables the teachers and artist to spend time collaboarating and planning, which maximizes the time spent with the children. We appreciate your nourishment and support.
Many thanks to the Ohio Arts Council, whose grant funding helps make these experiences possible for our school and community!
We would also like to the thank Muse Machine, for their programming support, for employing stellar artists like Omope, and for helping bring the joy of the arts into schools in the greater Dayton area.
Thank you to all who attended the OFP meeting for November, “Storytelling at Overfield.” We hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse of Omope’s work, and gained a window on how valuable storytelling is for children and adults, and ways to incoporate that into your family life.
We look forward to seeing you at the next OFP meeting on January 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the Gathering Place!
Courtesy and Safety Considerations at Arrival and Dismissal
Please make sure to observe the following courtesies and safety protocols while dropping off and picking up children at Overfield:
Observe the speed limit of 10 mph on the lane and in the front circle. Please pull up as close as is safe to other cars when parking, and do not leave large amounts of space in between.
Please don’t park in the area immediately around the corner coming up the lane. This is designated with a yellow painted curb.
Avoid parking at the end of the lane by the Kindergarten building, making sure to leave ample room for cars to turn around in this area.
Pull to the side when dropping off or picking up children, including in the front circle. This is important in order to maintain a good traffic flow. We do know that the leaves are making it difficult to pull over fully and to navigate the hill; we have spoken with our neighbors about this, and apologize for the inconvenience.
We recongnize that with higher numbers of children there is a lot more congestion at pick up and rop off. We are aware and sympathetic to the woes that this can bring when you are picking up and dropping off your child. We are looking at staggered times and/or a way to re-route drop off for next school year to alleviate these issues.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep all children safe and make arrival and departure as smooth as possible!
We are excited to share with everyone that our Overfield Family Partnership (OFP) meeting for November, “Storytelling at Overfield” will take place on Thursday, November 16th, at 6:30pm in The Gathering Place.
Our discussion of the evening will be about our visiting artist (Omopé Carter Daboiku aka Mama O), looking at storytelling within our school, and what we can do to incorporate it in our homes.
Parents and caregivers, please join us at this wonderful event to make connections and build friendships, while we spend time immersing ourselves in this core part of the children’s day.
The OFP is excited to share that we will be able to offer child care at our meeting, by RSVP only. We have to limit our child care group to the first 16 children who are ages 3 and up and potty trained. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee availability for drop-ins.
Please email FamilyPartnership@overfield.org names and ages of the children you will be bringing to reserve your spot no later than Tuesday (11/14) at 12pm.
